Indian Court Halts Release of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ Amid Legal Challenge

The Legend of Maula Jatt

The release of the Pakistani blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt in India has been halted due to a court petition, confirmed its distributor, Nadeem Mandviwala, on Wednesday. The film, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, was set to hit screens in Punjab but faced opposition from a far-right Hindu party.

The court petition has delayed the film’s release, which was initially expected to mark a significant moment for Pakistani cinema in India. Mandviwala shared his disappointment, stating, “The release has been delayed due to legal proceedings, and we are now awaiting the court’s decision.”

This setback is the latest in a series of delays for the film in India, where the ban on Pakistani artists following the 2016 Uri attack continues to affect cross-border entertainment. Both lead actors, Fawad and Mahira, have previously enjoyed success in Bollywood before the ban.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, a remake of the 1979 classic, explores a fierce rivalry between Maula Jatt and his nemesis Noori Natt. Despite the delays, hopes remain high that the film will eventually screen in India.
