Pakistani singer Waris Baig has revealed that veteran Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has “apologised” for using one of his songs without permission in the hit film Murder. In a recent podcast interview, Baig disclosed that Bhatt incorporated his song into the film without initially realizing it was a creation of a Pakistani artist.

Waris Baig mentioned that Bhatt later expressed regret for the unauthorized use, admitting he was unaware of the song’s origin at that time. The singer also shared that several of his songs have been copied over the years, primarily by Bollywood productions.

Despite this, Baig stated, “I don’t take offence if someone copies my songs,” noting that during his earlier career, there was no system in place to protect artists’ work. “Now YouTube sends strikes to those who copy, but back then, we had no such mechanism,” he explained.

While many of his songs have been replicated, Baig expressed no bitterness, recognizing the evolving landscape of intellectual property rights in the digital age.
