Study Finds Raising a Son Costs less as compared to a Daughter

Son

A study from 2010 by Lovemoney.com found that raising boys between the ages of 5 and 18 is generally cheaper than raising girls. The study attributed this to the higher costs associated with hobbies and activities typically preferred by girls. However, as this data is over a decade old, financial dynamics have likely shifted over time.

More recent research challenges this notion, with some studies suggesting that boys might actually be more expensive to raise. One survey found that raising a boy costs an average of $1,700 more per year than raising a girl. Factors such as clothing, extracurricular activities, and technology-related expenses contribute to these varying costs.

Beyond gender, the cost of raising children depends on multiple factors, including location, socioeconomic background, and family lifestyle choices. As spending habits and societal trends evolve, the financial gap between raising boys and girls continues to change.

Experts emphasize that while gender-based costs are a consideration, long-term financial planning should focus more on education, healthcare, and overall family expenses rather than just gender differences.
