While colourism remains a contentious issue in Pakistan’s showbiz industry, actor-model Sunita Marshall revealed her unique experience, highlighting how her dusky complexion helped her career in modeling while posing occasional challenges in television.
Speaking on a local talk show, Sunita shared that her skin tone was celebrated in the modeling industry. “I’ve never faced a major problem. I’ve actually only been at an advantage in the modeling industry,” she remarked, recalling instances where her complexion was intentionally darkened for shoots. She explained that vibrant colors, like the yellow outfit she wore during the interview, often pop better on darker skin tones, which made her a favorite for such styles.

However, Sunita acknowledged that the television industry presented occasional hurdles. “On TV, it has happened a few times,” she said, referring to technical challenges caused by skin tone contrasts on screen. Cameramen sometimes struggled to balance lighting and brightness levels when pairing her with fair-skinned co-stars, leading to advice about using makeup to even out their appearances on camera.
Despite these challenges, Sunita continues to thrive, with a career spanning over two decades since her debut in 2002. She recently reprised her role as Asma in the sequel to Baby Baji.
