Monsoon rains are expected to hit parts of Pakistan from June 26 through early July, offering relief from a persistent heatwave, according to the meteorological department on Tuesday.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a detailed monsoon rains forecast for July, warning of potential rainfall impacts across various regions. Pakistan has faced a severe heatwave since last month, with temperatures in some areas surpassing 50 degrees Celsius.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal would likely penetrate the eastern parts of the country from June 26, predicting rains from June 26 to July 1. Heavy rains could lead to flash floods in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Narowal, as well as hilly areas of Kashmir from June 28-30.
Dust storms, windstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily routines and damage loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels during this period. Authorities are advised to stay alert and take precautions.
Rain and thundershowers with isolated heavy rainfall are expected in several districts across Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Pakistan, one of the countries most affected by climate change, has experienced severe weather events like the unprecedented rainfall and glacier melting in 2022, which caused massive floods, killed nearly 1,700 people, and resulted in $3 billion in damages.
