Nawaz Still Open to Dialogue with Imran

PML-N leader and former interior minister Rana Sanaullah has disclosed that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was open to negotiating with PTI founding chairman Imran Khan in the past, emphasizing the importance of dialogue for the country’s benefit.

In an interview, Sanaullah mentioned that despite differences, Nawaz Sharif reached out to Imran Khan during critical moments, such as during Imran’s 126-day sit-in protest in 2014 and following the terrorist attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar later that year. Highlighting Nawaz’s willingness to prioritize national interests, Sanaullah recalled Nawaz’s efforts to engage Imran in dialogue, even amid verbal attacks from the latter.

Sanaullah also reiterated that former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Bajwa’s denial of any involvement in sending Nawaz Sharif abroad was accurate. He claimed that Imran Khan’s government facilitated Nawaz’s travel to London, even sending doctors to verify his health condition.

Commenting on Imran Khan’s public acceptance, Sanaullah suggested that it was minimal, attributing his electoral success to a portrayal of resistance and victimization rather than genuine popularity. Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s political stance, Sanaullah praised Nawaz’s unwavering commitment to his narrative, spanning over three decades of political engagement.

Sanaullah also alleged that the infamous Model Town Lahore incident in 2014, resulting in casualties, was orchestrated by Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri. Regarding the current government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Sanaullah asserted Nawaz’s full support and clarified that Nawaz retains the option to reclaim the presidency of the PML-N if desired. Lastly, Sanaullah claimed that Indian intelligence agency RAW is involved in terrorism in Pakistan, citing personal exposure to relevant reports on the matter.
