Biden receives briefing on drone attack targeting US soldiers in Jordan

U.S. President Joe Biden received a briefing on Monday regarding a recent drone attack that resulted in the tragic death of three American soldiers near the Syrian border in Jordan. Speaking from the Situation Room, Biden stated, “Today, I was briefed by members of my national security team on the latest developments concerning the attack on U.S. service members in northeastern Jordan.

As I’ve said, we’ll hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing.” The victims of the unmanned aerial drone attack were identified as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, with several others wounded. The group claiming responsibility for the attack, named the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, heightened tensions.

The U.S. attributes responsibility to Iran, accusing them of supporting militias in Iraq and Syria. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh affirmed the U.S.’s commitment to defending deployed military personnel and emphasized a measured response at a time and place determined by the nation.

Stressing a reluctance for war with Iran, Singh emphasized the U.S.’s prerogative in responding on its own terms.
