Global Warming Causes and Consequences

Global Warming is defined as gradual increase in earth’s temperature. This is dangerous for human being, animals, plants and our environment. Scientists world over have two opinions about causes of Global Warming. One group of scientists believe that it is due to change in the ratio of heat energy produced by Sun, but other group of scientists strongly believe that human activities like industrialization, rapid urbanization, deforestation, use of CFC gases causing Green House Effect and excessive use of electronic devices are the major reasons behind Global Warming.

Green House Effect is the major reason for rise in global temperature. It is really important to understand this phenomenon. In simple words carbon containing gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and CFC gases (chlorofloro carbons have ability to retain the heat energy absorbed by earth in atmosphere for longer period of time thus causing rise in global temperature. These gases are continuously emitted by industrial units, transport vehicles and electronic devices.

There are many adverse effects of global warming. Melting glaciers, early snowmelt, and severe droughts can cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires. Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the coastal areas and ice lands. Forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests, heat waves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding. All those factors will damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries. Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and Alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction. Allergies, asthma, and infectious disease outbreaks will become more common due to increased growth of pollen-producing ragweed, higher levels of air pollution, and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens and mosquitoes. Extreme weather conditions, thunderstorms, hurricanes and heavy rainfall can cause damage. The only solution to this problem is reduction in the ratio of carbon containing gasses specially carbon dioxide. It is possible by planting more and more trees, because plants are primary consumers of carbon dioxide and they release oxygen in atmosphere. They act like lungs by purifying the atmosphere.
