Over 1200 Pakistanis Hospitalized After Overeating Meat On Eid Ul Adha

Over 1,200 individuals in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa required emergency medical assistance due to overeating during the Eid ul-Adha celebrations, marked by lavish meat feasts.

Eid ul-Adha is celebrated in Pakistan with extended festivities, where consuming meat dishes is a central tradition. During the Eid days, more than 1,200 people were hospitalized in the densely populated regions of Punjab and the northeastern area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Reports indicate that over 600 cases of gastroenteritis were reported in Peshawar on the second day of Eid, which medics attributed to excessive meat consumption. Several hundred individuals were taken to hospitals suffering from diarrhea and abdominal pain.

In Lahore, Jinnah Hospital treated over 130 patients, while Services Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital, and Mayo Hospital each admitted more than 100 patients due to similar issues.

Gastroenterologists advised the public to consume Qurbani meat in moderation and avoid overeating during the festive period to prevent such health complications.
