Pakistan firmly rejected India’s objections to the references concerning Jammu and Kashmir in the joint statement issued by Pakistan and China on June 8. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is internationally acknowledged as a disputed territory, a status recognized by the UN Security Council for more than seven decades.

Addressing media inquiries regarding India’s Ministry of External Affairs statement on June 3, Baloch reiterated that according to relevant Security Council resolutions, the ultimate resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue will be determined through a democratic and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices, reflecting the will of the people.

The spokesperson countered India’s claims on Jammu and Kashmir, labeling them as unfounded and misleading. Baloch urged India to refrain from misinforming the international community regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), emphasizing that CPEC is a significant development initiative between two sovereign nations.

Instead of making baseless allegations about CPEC, Pakistan called on India to promptly adhere to the relevant UN Security Council resolutions pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesperson emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
