Pakistan’s forthcoming launch of its second communication satellite, Paksat MM1, represents a significant leap forward for the nation’s space and communication technology endeavors. Developed by Pakistani scientists and engineers with dedicated effort, this advanced satellite marks a pivotal milestone in Pakistan’s quest to expand internet connectivity nationwide.
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has spearheaded this ambitious project, aiming to provide reliable internet services to all corners of the country. The impending launch of Paksat MM1 is poised to transform this vision into reality, bolstering Pakistan’s digital infrastructure significantly.
Paksat MM1 is engineered to greatly enhance communication capabilities, ensuring broad internet coverage. This advancement holds particular importance for remote and underserved areas, where internet access has been limited. The satellite’s launch was initially scheduled for May 30, following the successful deployment of the iCube Qamar satellite on May 11. Suparco announced that the launch would take place from Islamabad. The primary goal of the MM1 satellite is to strengthen Pakistan’s communication infrastructure. It is expected to contribute to the establishment of a sophisticated communication network, meeting the growing demands of the telecom sector.
As internet usage continues to grow exponentially and with the impending rollout of 5G technology, the MM1 satellite holds promise in ensuring better availability and reliability of these services nationwide. Its advanced capabilities are poised to address the rising demand for high-speed internet and seamless connectivity.
Moreover, on May 3, Pakistan embarked on its first mission to the moon, joining the international space race for research. With Chinese assistance, the mission was launched from China’s Hainan Space Site. The satellite, developed by the Electrical Engineering Department of the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in Islamabad over two years, weighs approximately 7kg.
