Pakistan Rests Haris, Shadab Injured for NZ T20Is

Pakistan’s 17-man roster for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand set to kick off on January 12 has seen some significant omissions. Mohammad Haris, absent from the Pakistan set-up since the Asia Cup in September, finds himself left out of the squad, alongside Shadab Khan, who’s sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s chief selector, emphasized that both players remain integral to the team’s future plans. Addressing Shadab’s setback, Riaz noted, “Shadab is a pivotal member of Pakistan’s T20 cricket, specializing in white-ball formats. Unfortunately, he sustained an ankle injury during the season, requiring an additional two weeks of rehab. He’s anticipated to return to bowling thereafter.”

Regarding Haris’ exclusion, Riaz highlighted the selectors’ focus on harnessing a pool of talent, stating, “Haris is being rested as we’ve observed some impressive performances in the first-class arena. We recognize Haris’ potential and his role in our future plans, thus, leveraging our array of players.”

The shuffle in the squad aims to explore new talents while reaffirming the team’s commitment to nurturing its players for both immediate and long-term cricketing goals.
