Pakistan Sets Up Its First Dedicated Court for Official Secrets Act Cases

On Monday, a specialized court was established under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), following President Dr Arif Alvi’s recent denial of approving contentious bills that would expand the military’s authority. Reports indicate that Abul Hasnat, an Anti-Terrorism Court Judge, has been appointed to oversee the special court, with trials for cases falling under the Official Secrets Act anticipated to commence soon.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s former foreign minister and second in command to Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was apprehended over the weekend due to a cipher case, is expected to appear before the special court under the same controversial act.
