At least 20 children have tragically lost their lives at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Pakpattan between June 16 and June 22, prompting a formal inquiry into the incident. The Sahiwal Commissioner has ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the alarming fatalities.
The highest number of deaths occurred on June 19, when five children reportedly died in a single day. Grieving families have accused the hospital staff of negligence and pointed to a severe shortage of oxygen supply in the children’s ward as a possible cause.

In response, a new inquiry committee made up of technical experts from Sahiwal Teaching Hospital has been formed. The team has been directed to conduct a detailed probe and submit its findings within five days.
Officials say the investigation will cover all operational aspects of the hospital’s pediatric unit, including equipment, staff performance, and emergency response. Public outcry has grown over the hospital’s accountability and the lack of preventive safety measures.
