As Rs8 billion worth of two mega interchanges are under construction in Islamabad, the district administration has announced an additional underpass at the Murree Road-Srinagar Highway junction. This new project aims to ensure smooth, signal-free traffic flow from Murree and Kashmir to Srinagar Highway, helping to ease the city’s traffic congestion.
While the deadline for completing the Serena Interchange passed on January 5, work is still ongoing, with some underpasses completed. One such underpass connecting Khayaban-e-Suharwardi to Aabpara is set to open on January 11. Meanwhile, another underpass at the F-8 Interchange is already operational, with full completion expected by February 5.

According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the foundation stone for the two interchanges was laid by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in November. Despite delays, the projects are progressing, with full efforts to complete the underpasses by the end of the month. CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa has also directed that the new underpass at the Srinagar Highway junction be connected to the Serena Interchange project to further streamline traffic.
Once completed, the underpass will provide relief for travelers coming from Murree and Kashmir, making traffic movement smoother and faster in the federal capital.
