Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has been hospitalised in London, according to senior MQM officials. He has been living in self-exile in the United Kingdom since the early 1990s.
Mustafa Azizabadi, a London-based MQM leader, confirmed the news in a post on X. He said Altaf Hussain recently visited a local hospital for a medical check-up. Doctors carried out several initial tests and advised further diagnostic procedures to evaluate his health.
The statement also mentioned that doctors recommended a blood transfusion, which has already been completed. Altaf Hussain is currently under close medical observation as further assessments continue.
Azizabadi noted that Altaf Hussain has been suffering from emotional and psychological stress. This, he said, is due to ongoing legal challenges in London, financial difficulties, and pressure from both domestic and international political environments.
Qasim Ali Raza, MQM’s Deputy Convener of the Coordination Committee, also confirmed the leader’s health status. He said Hussain’s condition is being closely monitored by the medical team and that further updates will be shared soon.
In a message to party supporters, Raza said, “Altaf Bhai is going through a very difficult time. We urge everyone to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.”
Altaf Hussain has long been a controversial figure in Pakistani politics. He sought asylum in the UK in the early 1990s and was later granted British citizenship. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused him of inciting violence from abroad through his speeches.
The MQM leadership has asked its followers to remain patient and united during this challenging time. More information about his health condition will be released as it becomes available.
