America Reacts to the Detention of Military Officers in Pakistan

The U.S. has responded to recent news about the arrest of military officers in Pakistan by emphasizing that it views the situation as an internal issue for Pakistan to handle.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh addressed the matter during a briefing, acknowledging the reports but reaffirming that the U.S. considers it a Pakistani domestic affair.

She highlighted that the U.S. remains committed to its strong relationship with Pakistan and continues to engage with both military and civilian leaders from Pakistan on shared interests.

Singh emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Pakistan partnership, noting ongoing collaboration in regional security and mutual goals. Despite the situation, she confirmed that U.S. assistance and cooperation with Pakistan remain a priority.

On August 12, former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was placed under military custody, and a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) was initiated to address charges against him. The Pakistan Army has started this process following a detailed inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that Hameed’s violations of the Pakistan Army Act, including actions after retirement, were investigated, leading to his detention and court martial proceedings.

Additionally, on Friday, three more retired army officers were detained as part of a broader investigation into military discipline violations related to the case against Hameed.
