Amina Shigri, a young mountaineer from Gilgit-Baltistan, has achieved a remarkable feat by scaling the 7,027-meter Spantik Peak. Known as Golden Peak, Spantik is part of the Spantik-Sosbun subrange in the Karakoram mountains, located in Shigar district.
This achievement highlights Amina Shigri’s determination, resilience, and growing prominence in the field of mountaineering. Her success serves as an inspiration for aspiring climbers in Pakistan and beyond.
Amina first gained attention in 2021 when she scaled the 6,400-meter Khusar Gang Peak at just 15 years old. She completed the expedition alongside her father, Sharafat Ali Khawaja, and brother, Ahmed Ali. Remarkably, the family embarked on the journey without any sponsorships, demonstrating true passion and commitment to mountaineering.
The Khusar Gang expedition began on 26 August 2021 and took roughly one week to reach the summit. Khusar Gang, a 6,000-meter peak in the Karakoram range, is located near Sildi village in Shigar Valley, approximately 45 kilometers from Skardu city.
Following her success on Spantik, Amina Shigri has set her sights on an even bigger challenge: raising the Pakistani flag atop K2, the world’s second-highest peak. Her ambitions reflect not only personal goals but also national pride.
Spantik has a rich mountaineering history, with its first successful ascent recorded in 1899 by an American couple, Fanny and William Bullock-Workman. At the time, it was a world altitude record for female climbers, highlighting the mountain’s challenging nature.
Amina Shigri’s achievements mark a significant milestone in Pakistan’s mountaineering community. Her journey showcases how determination, family support, and courage can push young climbers to achieve extraordinary heights.
With her latest success, Amina continues to inspire the next generation of Pakistani mountaineers. Her future expeditions, including the ambitious plan to conquer K2, are highly anticipated.
