Approval of personal data protection bill

The Federal Cabinet has approved the Personal Data Protection Bill in principle for the protection of users’ personal data, information, and all forms of data.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), the Federal Cabinet approved the Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 in principle today in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The government would ensure the security of the user’s personal information/data through numerous agencies and companies under this bill. The government will forbid any corporation, individual, or government agency from using the user’s information/data without their permission.
According to the MoITT, the bill would establish a National Commission for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP), which will be a civil court, to protect customers’ private information/data and to resolve concerns.
According to the ministry, following the Federal Cabinet’s in-principle acceptance of the Personal Data Protection Bill, it will be referred to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs (CCLC) in accordance with the regulations, and then submitted to the Cabinet again.
The Bill will be introduced in Parliament after receiving final approval from the Federal Cabinet. It will become legislation and enter into force immediately after being approved by the National Assembly and the Senate.
