The federal government has deployed the army in Islamabad ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, in response to protest calls by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur has vowed to lead a rally to D-Chowk despite heavy security measures. The government is taking these steps to ensure security during high-profile international visits later this month.
In addition to the army, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary forces have also been stationed in the capital. The military deployment, effective from October 5 to 17, comes after clashes in previous PTI protests. Authorities are determined to maintain peace as the protests coincide with crucial events like the SCO Summit.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned the PTI against any disruptions, stating that law enforcement is prepared to respond firmly. He urged the PTI leadership to reconsider their protest plans, emphasizing that no one will be allowed to threaten public order.
The protests are being organized over issues like the imprisonment of PTI leader Imran Khan and delays in the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decisions. However, the government’s primary focus is to safeguard the capital and ensure the safety of international dignitaries during the SCO Summit.
