Balochistan Struck by Three Severe Earthquake Tremors

Severe tremors rattled various parts of Balochistan early Wednesday morning, including the provincial capital of Quetta, as the region continued to experience multiple earthquakes within a 24-hour period.The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad reported that the earthquake occurred at 02:27 am on Wednesday, registering a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter Scale, with a depth of 30 kilometres.

 

The epicentre of the earthquake was pinpointed at 166 kilometres southwest of Quetta in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region. Alongside Quetta, tremors were felt in Nushki, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, and other areas near the Pak-Afghan border. Despite the widespread fear and panic among citizens due to the repeated earthquakes, fortunately, no loss of life has been reported from the recent seismic activity.

Authorities are advising residents to remain vigilant and cautious as aftershocks are typical after such seismic events. Measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of residents, focusing on preparedness and response strategies.

Later in the morning, two additional moderate-level tremors were felt in the province. One occurred in Quetta and its vicinity, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre recorded 88 kilometres northeast of Quetta. The other struck half an hour later, registering a magnitude of 4.3 with a depth of 33 kilometres, and its epicentre located 50 kilometres northwest of Sibi.

On the preceding evening, another earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale shook parts of Balochistan, particularly near the Zhob district, with its epicentre approximately 113 kilometres southeast of Zhob.

Earlier that morning, two moderate-level earthquakes were experienced in Balochistan. The first tremors occurred around 5:35 am in Quetta and surrounding areas near the Pakistan-Afghan border, affecting Nushki, Chaman, Chagai, Qila Abdullah, Dalbandin, Pishin, and other nearby regions. According to the national quake monitoring agency, this earthquake registered at 5.4 on the Richter Scale, with a depth of 35 kilometres, and its epicentre was situated 150 kilometres southwest of Quetta.

Shortly after, at 06:24 am, the same area was struck by another earthquake, measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale, with a depth of 136 kilometres, and its epicentre located 120 kilometres southwest of Quetta.
