In a major breakthrough in the Degari double murder case, Quetta police have arrested Gul Jan, the mother of the deceased Bano Bibi. This follows her shocking confession in a viral video message, where she admitted to her involvement in the brutal killings of her daughter and a young man in the Degari area.
The double murder case, which has captured national attention, unfolded just days before Eid-ul-Adha. Bano Bibi and a young man named Ehsanullah Samalani were publicly killed, and footage of the crime quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
In the video, Gul Jan openly justified the killings, claiming they were carried out in accordance with local customs. Her confession led authorities to take immediate action, culminating in her arrest.
Following her detention, Gul Jan was brought before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Quetta. The police requested her physical remand for further investigation, citing the need for critical information about the crime.
The court granted the request, handing her over to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing for a two-day remand. Authorities believe that further details about the planning and execution of the double murder will emerge during interrogation.
The investigation into this horrific double murder has already led to several arrests, including that of tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, who is now in police custody on a 10-day physical remand. The police are continuing raids to apprehend additional suspects, including Bano Bibi’s brother, who remains at large.
In a chilling update, the bodies of the victims were exhumed earlier this week after a court order. Post-mortem reports revealed the victims were shot multiple times, with Bano Bibi receiving seven bullet wounds and Ehsanullah Samalani nine. The authorities have also confirmed that the crime occurred on June 4, 2025.
So far, the police have arrested 13 suspects in connection with the double murder, and investigations continue. The Balochistan government, including Chief Minister Sardar Sarfaraz Bugti, has expressed strong condemnation of the incident, pledging to ensure justice for the victims.
The case is ongoing, and authorities are determined to bring all responsible parties to justice.
