The Pakistan Meteorological Department has sounded the alarm over a severe heatwave sweeping across the country, with Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan expected to bear the brunt. Beginning today, temperatures in these regions are forecast to surge 6 to 8°C above seasonal norms, posing serious health risks and disrupting daily life.
The sweltering conditions are not limited to the south. Starting April 18, central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to see a spike of 4 to 6°C in daytime temperatures. Gusty winds accompanying the heat may intensify discomfort, particularly in urban centers.

On Tuesday, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Dadu topped the national temperature charts at a scorching 43°C. Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ismail Khan weren’t far behind, with readings between 37°C and 39°C. Even relatively cooler regions like Islamabad and Quetta saw temperatures reaching 33°C.
Health officials are urging citizens to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, remain indoors as much as possible, and stay well-hydrated. The hot spell is expected to persist through the week, with no immediate relief in sight.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise the public to stay alert and take precautionary measures to avoid heatstroke and dehydration.
