Bushra Bibi Released from Adiala Jail After Securing Bail in Toshakhana 2 Case

Bushra Bibi, the former first lady and wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was released from Adiala Jail on Thursday after the Islamabad High Court granted her bail in the Toshakhana 2 case. Her release came after her guarantor, Malik Tariq Mehmood Noon, submitted bail bonds totaling Rs1 million.

The release order was signed by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand of the Islamabad Accountability Court, and her legal representative, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, confirmed that she had left the jail for Bani Gala with her security detail. Barrister Gohar expressed confidence that Bushra Bibi would not face any further arrests, stating, “There is no need to arrest Bushra Bibi in any case.”

On October 23, 2024, the Islamabad High Court, led by Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb, granted bail to Bushra Bibi, requiring two surety bonds of Rs1 million each for her release. During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb highlighted the challenges in determining the value of the Tosha Khana gifts, suggesting that auctions might be necessary to assess their worth. He also questioned the rationale behind implicating Bushra Bibi, drawing parallels to the case involving Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Despite the High Court granting bail on October 23, Bushra Bibi’s release was delayed due to procedural issues with the bail bonds, leading to her extended stay in custody until Wednesday afternoon.

The Toshakhana 2 case involves allegations that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi illegally retained and sold valuable gifts received during official foreign trips, including luxury watches, without following proper procedures.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the matter after the case was transferred from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) due to a Supreme Court ruling on NAB amendments.

The case gained significant attention after both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were arrested in July 2024, shortly after receiving bail in another case related to their marriage during Iddat.
