Chicken Prices Soar Nationwide, Leaving Consumers Struggling

Amid government claims of efforts to reduce inflation, the prices of essential commodities continue to rise sharply, with chicken meat seeing an unprecedented surge of nearly 100% across the country. This has left consumers grappling with mounting costs, as they struggle to manage their household budgets.

In Islamabad, the price of chicken meat has soared to Rs880 per kilogram, an increase of Rs430 within just one week. The cost of live chicken has also surged from Rs285 to Rs460 per kg, while desi chicken, known for its high quality, is now being sold for an eye-watering Rs900 per kilogram.

Similar price hikes have been reported in Lahore, where broiler chicken meat surpassed Rs700 per kg. In the city’s Tollinton Market, chicken was being sold for Rs730 per kg, far exceeding the government’s official price of Rs595 per kg. This gap between the official rate and market prices highlights the growing disconnect between the two.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the price of chicken has also risen, with Peshawar seeing an increase of Rs70 in just one week. The price jumped from Rs440 to Rs510 per kg, reflecting the widespread nature of this price surge across various regions.
