Key responsibilities of the committee will include developing a roadmap for establishing a state-of-the-art film city, a modern film academy, and a technologically advanced film lab. Additionally, it will work on improving the overall film infrastructure and establishing the Punjab Film Fund. The committee is tasked with preparing proposals and comprehensive policies to promote the film industry in the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has requested the committee to submit recommendations within 15 days, focusing on measures to enhance film and arts promotion in Punjab. A significant aspect of their work will involve implementing an artist welfare system that provides health insurance, social security, and welfare benefits for artists, along with planning for a housing society for industry professionals.
Beyond infrastructure, the committee aims to establish artistic expression centers and initiatives to promote art and support emerging talent. Furthermore, they will propose policies to increase the number of cinema houses in Punjab and offer special incentives to investors in the film sector.
An official notification for the formation of the steering committee has been issued by the principal secretary to the chief minister.
