Cold Spell Breaks: Anticipated Rain and Snowfall Until January’s End

The Meteorological Office has reported that a westerly wave is expected to enter the western parts of Pakistan on January 27, persisting over upper regions until January 31. This weather system is anticipated to bring various weather conditions across different regions.

Gilgit Baltistan/Kashmir: From the night of January 27 to January 31, light to moderate rain, accompanied by snowfall over the hills, is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) and Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Bunner, Karak, Peshawar, Charsada, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, and Kohat are expected to experience light to moderate rain with snowfall over the hills from the night of January 27 to January 31, with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad: Islamabad and the Pothohar region are likely to witness light to moderate rain from the night of January 27 to January 31. Murree and Galliyat may experience light to moderate rain with snowfall over the hills during this period, with occasional gaps. In Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, and Sargodha, rain (with snowfall over hills) is anticipated on January 30 and 31. Cold, dry, and foggy conditions are expected during night and morning hours elsewhere in the province.

Balochistan: Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman, Barkhan, and the Makran coast may experience light to moderate rain with snowfall over the hills on January 28 and 29, with occasional gaps.

Sindh: Most parts of the province are expected to have cold and dry weather, with shallow to moderate foggy conditions in upper Sindh.

  • Tourists are advised to remain cautious during the spell.
  • Rain may be beneficial for standing crops in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
