Committee rejects PTI’s claims of ‘sexual assault’ on women in jail.

Committee rejects PTI's claims of 'sexual assault' on women in jail.

A two-member government committee rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) allegations of mistreatment and sexual assault of women in Punjab prisons on Monday.

SSP Investigations Lahore Anoosh Masood and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider told journalists outside Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore that they “strongly” rejected the Imran Khan-led party’s claims.

The allegations were labelled “nothing but a pack of lies” by committee members because none of the ten women they met separately informed them of being mistreated.

“I should point out that a specialist and a gynaecologist are present here.” “There is a library here, and all women are free to read whatever book they want,” Masood told journalists.

“There is safe drinking water here.” The bed sheets are clean. “Even if they require clothing, they are available,” she stated.

“All of the inmates in the case, including Khadija Shah, were fine,” Masood continued.

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi formed the two-member committee to investigate PTI allegations of mistreatment of female supporters arrested after the May 9 vandalism.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan claimed that party supporters were being “molested and harassed” and urged Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to intervene and take action.

Thousands of PTI workers who have been arrested in connection with the May 9 violence also include women, while CM Naqvi had initially claimed that women have been dealt with in line with the law he has now formed a committee to probe the issue.

Earlier, CM Naqvi claimed that the PTI was spreading lies about women being mistreated in prisons.

He revealed that 32 women were arrested, with only 11 remaining in custody. The chief minister went on to say that it is his government’s responsibility to keep “mothers and sisters safe.”
