Countrywide Forecast: More Rainfall Ahead

A westerly wave is expected to enter Balochistan on 9th March and extend to upper parts on 11th March, followed by another westerly wave on 12th March. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued the following forecast for different regions in the country.

In Balochistan, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected in various areas from 9th to 10th March. Additionally, rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with snowfall over the hills) are anticipated in several districts from 10th to 13th March.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with snowfall over the hills) in several districts from 10th to 14th March. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are expected on 13th and 14th March.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir may see rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with snowfall over the hills) in various districts from 11th to 15th March.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with heavy falls are forecasted in multiple districts from 11th to 14th March. On 13th March, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in some districts, with isolated hailstorms possible during the period.

Sindh is expected to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms in certain districts on 10th and 12th March during the evening/night.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

The forecasted weather conditions may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs of Balochistan on 9th and 10th March. Additionally, disruption of traffic flows in northern parts of Balochistan from 10th to 13th March could occur due to snowfall.

Closure of roads in various areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on 13th and 14th March is possible due to heavy rain and snowfall. Landslides may also affect vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan during the wet spell.

Wind-thunderstorms/hailstorms could result in damage to loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels. As a precaution, tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while farmers are urged to remain cautious about their crops.
