Court rejected Dr Yasmin Rashid’s physical remand, sent to police hospital

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday denied the police’s request for physical remand of PTI Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid in connection with the May 9 violent protests and ordered her transfer to the Police Lines Hospital.

Judge Abher Gul Khan ordered the police investigating officer (IO) to provide a report from the Services Hospital on the PTI leader’s fitness and discharge.

When asked where Dr Yasmin was detained, the IO stated that she was detained outside the Central Jail Kot Lakhpat. He stated that Dr. Yasmin was transported to the Services Hospital for a medical examination.

The judge stated that physical remand of Dr Yasmin could not be granted without first reviewing the hospital discharge slip. Dr. Yasmin was sent to the Police Lines Hospital until Tuesday (today).

The judge did, however, grant the Sarwar Road police a 14-day physical remand of six PTI workers accused of ransacking public and private properties, including Jinnah House (Corps Commander House), during the May 9 riots. Abdul Hameed, Waqar Tariq, Muhammad Abdullah, Sajjad Aziz, Muhammad Naveed, and Nazir are among the suspects.

Following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in an alleged corruption case by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), PTI workers resorted to violent protests.
