A horrifying road accident on GT Road in Lahore claimed the lives of at least five people, including two young schoolgirls. A speeding dumper with reportedly failed brakes ploughed into rickshaws and motorcycles near the Akhri Mint bus stop, causing chaos and devastation.
According to Rescue 1122, the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle, which rammed into three rickshaws and two motorcycles. Witnesses described a terrifying scene where victims were trapped under the dumper until emergency responders arrived. Among the deceased were 12-year-old Aima, 10-year-old Hafiza, and three men. Four others, including children, sustained critical injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Footage from the crash site showed mangled vehicles and bystanders in panic as rescue teams used machinery to lift the dumper. Preliminary findings suggest brake failure led to the crash, raising alarm over the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles through densely populated areas during peak hours.
The incident comes amid broader traffic safety challenges in Lahore. In the past 24 hours alone, 1,290 road accidents were reported across Punjab, with 11 fatalities. The Lahore traffic police have now shifted to stricter enforcement, registering FIRs instead of fines for major violations, such as one-way breaches, overloaded vehicles, and modified motorcycles used for transport.
