Deputy PM Ishaq Dar to Attend OIC Summit as Pakistan's Representative

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is set to represent Pakistan at the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit, scheduled to take place in Gambia on May 2. The summit, to be held in the capital of Gambia, Punggol, holds significant importance as it occurs amidst the ongoing conflict in Palestine, noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesperson. This gathering presents a crucial opportunity for the OIC to present a united and resolute stance on the issue of Palestine.

During the summit, Deputy Prime Minister Dar will address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advocate for the self-determination rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, Dar will underscore Pakistan’s stance on combating Islamophobia, emphasizing the necessity of solidarity and unity within the Islamic world. Moreover, he will highlight the urgent need to address pressing global challenges such as climate change and terrorism, advocating for collaborative efforts and social solutions within the Islamic community.

Alongside participating in the summit proceedings, Deputy Prime Minister Dar is slated to engage in bilateral meetings with fellow leaders and foreign ministers, facilitating discussions on pertinent regional and international issues. In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, as confirmed through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday.
