Ex-Punjab Police SHO Arrested Over Rs 1Billion Corruption

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested a retired sub-inspector of Punjab Police, Rafique Ahmad, on charges of possessing illegal assets worth Rs1 billion.

The arrest took place on Saturday, following an ACE investigation that revealed Ahmad, despite his outwardly religious appearance, accumulated wealth through corrupt activities and illegal farming while stationed in Rahim Yar Khan’s Kacha area.

According to the investigation, Ahmad exploited his position in 2018 to illegally seize 1,384 kanals of waqf land belonging to Hazrat Khwaja Ghulam Farid, cultivating it with the help of local criminals. Additionally, he illicitly farmed around 1,500 kanals of land in the region, known for harboring criminal gangs.

Further inquiries uncovered that Ahmad had created benami properties under his son’s name, including a one-kanal plot in Rahim Yar Khan’s Mohalla Islamnagar and a four-kanal property worth millions in Kuchi Zaman.

The former officer is also accused of using corrupt earnings to purchase four luxury vehicles and invest in additional properties. Preliminary findings estimate that Ahmad profited more than Rs1 billion through these illegal actions.

ACE Director General Sohail Zafar Chatta commended the impartial efforts of his team and reviewed anti-corruption measures across Punjab.
