A tragic incident occurred in the Surband Langar Khel area of Lakki Marwat district on Saturday, when a mortar shell exploded, killing five children and injuring 13 others.
The explosion happened within the jurisdiction of the Saddar police station after a group of children discovered an old mortar shell lying outside the village. Unaware of the danger, they took the shell home, where it detonated while they were playing.
The victims were all children, with ages ranging from six to twelve. Four girls and one boy lost their lives on the spot due to the explosion.
The blast also caused injuries to 13 members of the same family, including both men and women. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, with injuries ranging in severity.
Law enforcement personnel, including the District Police Officer (DPO) of Lakki Marwat, arrived at the site shortly after the explosion and secured the area.
