Farmer Arrested for Breaking Buffalo’s Legs After It Entered His Field in Pir Mahal

In Pir Mahal, a farmer allegedly broke the legs of a buffalo after it entered his crop field. The incident came to light on Saturday. Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects related to the case. A formal complaint was registered against Zahir, Azhar, Tariq, and four unidentified individuals.

This case of cruelty against a buffalo is not isolated. Recently, Punjab reported two other cases involving brutal violence against donkeys. In Pattoki, a laborer’s donkey was found severely injured with broken legs after it entered a field. The owner and his son discovered the animal bleeding in a nearby barn.

Similarly, in Sarai Mughal, a donkey following its foal entered a crop field. The landowner reportedly attacked the donkey with an axe, breaking its leg. Police have registered cases for both these incidents and started searching for the culprits.

Animal cruelty in Pakistan is punishable under the law. Section 428 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) states that harming or killing an animal worth Rs. 10 or more can lead to imprisonment of up to two years and a fine.

More severe punishments apply under Section 429, which covers larger animals like camels, elephants, cattle, and buffaloes. Injuring or killing such animals valued at Rs. 50 or above can result in up to five years of jail time plus a fine.

Authorities urge the public to respect animal rights and report any abuse. The recent rise in violence against animals like buffaloes and donkeys highlights the need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws.
