Lahore authorities have introduced strict measures to combat false sexual assault cases, with offenders facing up to three years in prison under the Anti-Rape Act. The city’s Investigation Wing has begun developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure effective implementation of the law. Police officials have emphasized that filing a false rape case will now be punishable under this act.
According to police data, 47% of sexual assault cases reported this year in Lahore were found to be baseless. Investigations into over 400 cases revealed that 70 individuals accused in these cases were innocent. Currently, 800 cases remain under investigation, while the rest have been submitted to the courts.
