In a tragic incident, five police officers were martyred, and two others were injured during a violent dacoit attack on the Sheikhani police check post in Rahim Yar Khan. The attack, which took place in the early hours, was carried out by members of the notorious Indhar and Bukhirani criminal gangs.
The dacoits, heavily armed, launched a fierce assault using rocket launchers and hand grenades. At the time of the attack, seven police officers were stationed at the check post. Five of them, identified as Irfan, Saleem, Khalil, Ghazanfar, and Nakhil, lost their lives in the assault.
Three of the martyrs were from Bahawalnagar, while two were from Rahim Yar Khan. The injured officers were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, a massive search operation has been initiated by the local police to apprehend those responsible. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice as swiftly as possible.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her condolences over the martyrdom of the police officers. In a statement, she praised their bravery and sacrifice, emphasizing their commitment to protecting the public. She further assured the families of the fallen officers that the provincial government would provide full support during this difficult time.
The Chief Minister also reaffirmed her commitment to continuing the operation against dacoits in the riverine areas. She stressed that the crackdown on criminal gangs and terrorists would continue with full force until peace and security were restored.
The tragic loss of these five police officers has once again highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement in their duty to safeguard the public.
