A tragic flash flood in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district, near Babusar Top, has claimed the lives of several people, including two from Lodhran. The victims were part of a group of 22 tourists visiting the picturesque region. Among those who died were Dr. Fahad Islam, a medical professional, and his sister-in-law, the wife of his brother Saad Islam.
The tourists, who had been vacationing in Skardu, were traveling back when they were caught in the sudden and intense flash flood along the Babusar-Thak Road. The flood swept away eight vehicles, leaving more than 15 tourists missing and hundreds stranded in the region. The affected area, known for its mountainous terrain, has become increasingly dangerous due to extreme weather during the monsoon season.
According to family sources, Dr. Fahad Islam’s father sustained injuries in the incident, while a 3-year-old child from the group is still missing. However, several other family members managed to survive the ordeal. Local authorities have launched rescue operations and are working tirelessly to recover the bodies and locate the missing individuals. As soon as weather conditions improve, the deceased will be transported back to Lodhran for final rites.
Dr. Fahad Islam and his family were closely associated with Dr. Affan Qaiser, a renowned gastroenterologist and media personality in Lodhran. The tragic news has deeply affected the local medical community and social circles.
