In addition to the gas tariff adjustment, an Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting approved a 25% sales tax rate on locally manufactured and assembled vehicles, applicable to vehicles worth Rs4 million or with 1400cc engines. This move is expected to result in a price hike for such vehicles.
The increase in gas prices for Export Oriented Units (EOUs) from Rs 2,400 to Rs2,950/MMBtu has been strongly opposed by the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) North chairman, Kamran Arshad, who stated that this increase would be disastrous for the textile industry.
