Heavy rains, the fourth monsoon spell, have caused significant disruptions across Lahore, submerging low-lying areas and transforming streets into rivers. The intense rainfall has made daily life difficult for residents, with water accumulating in various neighborhoods and halting regular activities.
According to reports, the downpour led to severe flooding in several parts of the city, affecting both transportation and essential services. As water levels rose, local authorities struggled to manage the situation, leaving residents frustrated with the administration’s response. Many questioned the preparedness and efficiency of the local government in dealing with such heavy rains.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Tajpura, where 115 millimeters of rain fell. While WASA teams worked throughout the day to ensure drainage systems operated, the scale of the floodwaters overwhelmed many areas. Despite their efforts, the flooding caused severe inconvenience and posed risks to public safety.
In one tragic incident, a house in Lakhodair village collapsed due to the heavy rains, leading to the death of one person and injuries to three others. This highlights the ongoing dangers posed by the extreme weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the heavy rains will continue intermittently until July 25. Authorities are urging residents to take precautions and remain alert, as more flooding and disruptions are expected in the coming days.
The situation serves as a stark reminder of the challenges cities like Lahore face during the monsoon season, particularly with inadequate infrastructure to manage such intense rainfall.
