Heavy Rains Set to Hit Pakistan in Coming Days

The Meteorological Department has forecast that pre-monsoon rains will begin on June 22, with rainfall expected to be 25% above normal levels across Pakistan, raising the risk of urban flooding in several cities.

According to the PDMA Punjab, cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sialkot could see up to 60% more rainfall than average. The department has completed emergency preparations and will issue early warnings in case of severe weather events.

Officials say August is likely to see the heaviest rainfall, and a joint plan is being formulated to tackle potential cloudbursts and flash floods.

Meanwhile, the NDMA has issued a heatwave alert until June 22 for parts of Sindh, south Punjab, eastern Balochistan, and KP. Cities such as Jacobabad, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to experience dangerously high temperatures.

Authorities are urging citizens to stay indoors during peak heat hours and take all necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
