IHC orders to release PTI leader Asad Umar

Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Umar was ordered released by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday.

During today’s hearing, Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb stated that the court is reserving judgement in the two cases where bail is sought and directed the PTI leader to file an affidavit.

“If the affidavit is violated, then forget about your political career,” Justice Aurangzeb said.

The PTI leader was also ordered by the IHC justice to delete two tweets.

According to Babar Awan, who spoke to the media after the hearing, the judge stated that even if Umar is released, he will be re-arrested until he holds a “press conference.”

Awan responded that “there will be no press conference,” adding that “we are not afraid of arrests.”

The lawyer insisted that he supports PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

“I support Imran Khan, as do millions of others.” We’re not hiding…we’re going to fix this country,” he added.

He went on to say that 11 cases had been filed against Umar, with two of them being registered while he was in Karachi, and that he had also requested protective bail in those cases.

Umar was arrested on the premises of the IHC on May 10, a day after party chief Imran Khan was arrested.

The PTI leader was reportedly apprehended by Islamabad police near the IHC’s writ branch.

Regarding the arrest of the PTI leader, the party said on its official Twitter account that it was another arrest “under the court premises by this fascist regime.

Despite the relief granted by the courts, the crackdown on PTI leaders appears to be continuing.

A day earlier, Punjab Police re-arrested senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi from outside the Adiala Jail, hours after the IHC had ordered his release.

PTI leader Musarrat Jamshed Cheema was also re-arrested alongside Qureshi, according to News.
