Barkha Dutt’s visit to Pakistan coincides with the country’s preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. During her trip, she met with leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), as international media representatives began to arrive in the country to cover this significant event.

Pakistan is set to host the 23rd Council of Heads of Government meeting of the SCO summit in Islamabad on Tuesday and Wednesday. The summit will see participation from prime ministers and senior officials of SCO member countries, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran’s First Vice President. India’s External Affairs Minister and China’s Premier Li Qiang are also expected to attend.

Media reports indicate that delegations from various countries have already arrived in Islamabad. Notable arrivals include a four-member team from India, 76 representatives from Russia, 15 officials from China, a two-member delegation from Iran, and four officials from Kyrgyzstan.

However, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has ruled out the possibility of bilateral talks during the SCO summit. In response to a question at a recent event, he emphasized that while media attention is likely due to the nature of relations, the summit will primarily serve as a multilateral platform.
