Ex-Islamabad Wildlife Board Chief’s Residence Attacked Amid 'Monal Demolition' Controversy

According to the complaint lodged at Kohsar Police Station, a group of individuals targeted her home in Sector F-7, pelting stones and causing damage.

Rina Saeed Khan stated in her complaint that the assailants also issued death threats, blaming her for the demolition of Monal, which they claimed led to job losses. However, she clarified that the demolition was carried out under the Supreme Court’s orders and that she had no personal involvement in the decision.

The ex-IWMB chairperson has called for strict legal action against those responsible for the attack and those inciting protests against her. She further highlighted an ongoing campaign against her, including banners displayed across the capital. Islamabad Police have assured that legal measures will be taken against the perpetrators.

Monal restaurant, situated in Margalla Hills National Park, was demolished in September last year following a Supreme Court directive. The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) implemented the court’s order, which also included the removal of La Montana and other establishments, in an effort to restore the area’s natural environment.

Pakistan’s Supreme Court had earlier ruled for the removal of several restaurants from the protected region, rejecting appeals against the decision. The court also reprimanded the restaurant owners for violating the Islamabad Wildlife Protection Ordinance of 1979.
