Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi Challenge Toshakhana Case Arrests at IHC

Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi

Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have petitioned the Islamabad High Court to contest their arrests in the Toshakhana case.

Filed by Barristers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, the petitions claim that the arrests are politically driven and lack legal grounds. They allege that the federal and Punjab governments are fabricating cases for political revenge, aiming to detain Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The petitions argue that the arrests were made while summons notices were still under judicial review, suggesting malicious intent. They accuse political opponents of using the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for personal vendettas, despite higher court rulings stating that mere nomination in a case doesn’t justify immediate arrest.

The petitions request the court to declare the arrests illegal and order the immediate release of both individuals. Additionally, they seek a directive that future arrests in any case should require the Islamabad High Court’s approval.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s legal team has named the NAB Chairman, NAB Director General, and other officials as respondents. They emphasize that the couple has cooperated with investigations, making the arrests unwarranted. The petitions highlight that the arrests violate high court orders and exemplify bad faith actions by political opponents.

The court is urged to prevent governmental institutions from arresting Imran Khan and his wife without judicial approval in the future, protecting them from politically motivated actions.
