Rawalpindi Weather: 168mm Rainfall Hits Twin Cities Amid Ongoing Downpour

Rawalpindi weather has been significantly impacted by continuous rainfall in recent days. The Meteorological Department reports that the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, have received a combined total of 168 millimeters of rain.

The highest rainfall in Rawalpindi was recorded in Kacheri, which saw 237 mm of rain. Gawalmandi followed with 234 mm, and Katarian received 220 mm. Other areas, including Pirwadhai, Bokra, and Shamsabad, recorded rainfall between 162 mm and 200 mm.

In Islamabad, Sector H-8 saw 152 mm of rainfall, while Golra recorded 170 mm and Saidpur received 144 mm, according to the Meteorological Office.

Since June 26, monsoon rains have continued across Pakistan, with intensity ranging from light showers to heavy downpours. This season’s rainfall has been significantly above average, with a reported 80 percent increase compared to normal levels.

The monsoon rains have caused widespread damage, including flash floods that have claimed 116 lives and left 253 injured across the country. While the weather has been favorable in some regions, areas like Sindh remain drier than usual.

Farooq Dar, Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, pointed out that the northern and central regions of Pakistan have seen a significant increase in rainfall. He mentioned that Kashmir, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have witnessed dramatic rainfall increases, with Punjab seeing a 124 percent rise.

The current monsoon spell is expected to last until July 17, but a new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan soon. This raises concerns about potential urban flooding in major cities, including Rawalpindi. “There is a risk of flash flooding next week in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Kashmir, and the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” warned Farooq Dar.

While the rains have brought relief from the heat, they have also caused deadly floods and accidents. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as more rain is forecast in the coming days.
