IT Ministry Secures ECP's NOC for Member Telecom Appointment

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication is set to begin the process of appointing a new Member Telecom after obtaining a no objection certificate (NOC) from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

With the ECP’s permission secured, the ministry is expected to issue an advertisement for the appointment of a new Member Telecom in the near future. This move comes after the former Telecom member, Omar Malik, completed his tenure and left the post on August 27th.

While there was initially a plan to extend his tenure, the decision was later withdrawn. The Member Telecom plays a crucial role in implementing decisions related to the telecom sector and the planned launch of 5G, making the appointment vital for the ministry’s operations.

The position of Member Telecom is classified as MP-1 scale, and the member holds a seat on various important boards, including the Frequency Allocation Board, Telecom Universal Service Fund (USF), Ignite, and others.
