A joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the Punjab interim government to investigate the May 9 arson attacks on Jinnah House (Corps Commander’s House) and the Askari Corporate Tower in Lahore has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, according to reliable sources.
Following the attacks on civil and military institutions, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House, Khan’s arrest earlier this month sparked days of street protests, which led to the exodus of PTI leaders. At least eight people were killed in the country’s violent protests.

During these protests, alleged PTI supporters vandalised and set fire to dozens of state and military installations and memorials, as well as attacking Gate No 1 of the GHQ in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore.
The JIT, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kamran Adil, has summoned the former prime minister, who was deposed by a vote of no-confidence in April last year, to appear before the investigation body on May 30 at 4 p.m. at the Qila Gujjar Singh investigation headquarters.
According to sources close to the situation, the JIT will question Khan about the May 9 riots. The Punjab Home Department has formed ten different joint investigation teams (JITs) to investigate the attacks and violent protests on May 9, dubbed “Black Day” by the army.
According to the sources, the deposed prime minister was named in several FIRs filed at various police stations throughout the province.

According to media reports, the JIT is led by DIG Adil and includes Dr Raza Tanveer, Superintendent Police (SP) Investigation City Division Lahore, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)/SP-AVLS Lahore Raza Zahid, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Taimoor Khan, and Muhammad Sarwar, Factory Area Police Station in-charge investigation.
According to the sources, Khan has consulted with his legal team after receiving the notice from the JIT, but it has not been decided whether the PTI chairman will appear before the probe body or not.
