JUI-F Rejects Support for CJP Isa Over Mubarak Sani Case Verdict

JUI-F

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has announced it will not support Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa in ongoing constitutional amendments due to his controversial decision in the Mubarak Sani case.

JUI-F Secretary General Abdul Ghafoor Haideri expressed this position while speaking with journalists at Parliament House, criticizing Justice Isa’s ruling as a deliberate affront to religious sentiments.

Abdul Ghafoor accused the court of reversing the decision only due to public pressure, arguing, “How can we support such a person in constitutional amendments?” He further criticized the government’s handling of the constitutional amendment process, noting a lack of consultation with coalition parties and concerns about transparency, particularly in areas related to human rights.

The Mubarak Sani case, which fueled these tensions, involved charges against Sani for distributing material offensive to religious sentiments. The Supreme Court’s ruling sparked outrage, with the JUI-F and other religious groups condemning what they saw as misinterpretations of constitutional rights related to religion and public order. The ruling was eventually revised, with several controversial paragraphs removed after pressure from religious scholars.

This development underscores growing tensions within the ruling coalition and highlights significant challenges for the constitutional amendment process, particularly in gaining support from key political and religious factions.
