A significant gas shortage is hitting millions of consumers in Balochistan and Sindh, notably affecting Karachi. The Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) announced a 16-day annual maintenance shutdown of the Kunnar Pasakhi Deep Gas Field, starting on August 12. This shutdown involves a complete halt in the gas field’s operation for eight days and two additional four-day partial shutdowns.
The implications of this shutdown extend to the gas supplies managed by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), which caters to Sindh, Balochistan, and Karachi. During the full shutdown period, SSGC anticipates a gas shortage of 107 MMcfd, reducing to 50 MMcfd during the two partial shutdowns.

This shortage is likely to create widespread challenges in the affected regions, including power outages, water scarcity, and disruptions to industrial activities. SSGC has encouraged consumers to conserve gas during the shutdown and has also assured critical consumers that alternative gas supplies will be provided.
